The following is a selection of volunteer opportunities from various community organizations, made available through Volunteer North Shore, a service of North Shore Community Resources Society.
School Program Assistant A volunteer is needed to assist naturalists on school programs for elementary and secondary students. Programs have different themes such as rain forests, invertebrates (bugs), or streams. Programs are outside, spring and fall, rain or shine. Help kids explore habitats.
Visitors Lynn Valley Care Centre is looking for volunteers to visit with residents and help with various programs. Duties could include conversation, musical entertainment, games, reading, mealtime assistance, etc. This position would be suitable for a high school student, 16 years of age or older.
Daffodil Campaign Street Team Leader April is Daffodil Month. The Street Team program consists of teams of volunteers promoting pins and cut daffodils in pre-assigned locations, including malls and street corners. It is primarily a fundraising campaign, but also raises awareness about programs. Family Art Guides Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art seeks dedicated young and enthusiastic student volunteers to assist with new weekly Saturday programing, the Art Inquiry Place. Family art guides will help guide families through activities and encourage them to take creative risk and consider new outlooks via age-specific discovery cards, art activities, photography and performance.
Door-to-Door Fundraiser Volunteer Volunteers are needed to canvass door-to-door in their neighbourhood to raise awareness of the seriousness of impaired driving and collect donations to support MADD's community and victim support programs.
Community Connections Volunteers Volunteers are needed to participate in one to three group activities per month for a period of three to six months. Volunteers will be responsible for providing information about the community and helping newcomers to learn about activities and services available.
