THE FOLLOWING is a selection of volunteer opportunities from various community organizations, made available through Volunteer North Shore, a service of North Shore Community Resources Society.
Drivers: Volunteers are needed to take seniors, who are unable to use public transit or HandyDART and often have no family or friends to take them, to medical appointments or Seniors' Hub programs.
Volunteer: Lynn Valley Community Association is looking for a volunteer for Lynn Valley Day happening on May 26. This is a major community event and a variety of positions are available.
Mentor: Mentor volunteers are needed to provide support and guidance to a young entrepreneur assigned by Canadian Youth Business Foundation.
Volunteer: The Elders Council for Parks in B.C., located at the heritage centre at the entrance to Mount Seymour Park, is seeking volunteer assistance to offer adult environmental education programs, collect and display park information and assist with the centre's operation.
Horse handler/side walker: Volunteers are trained to assist with preparing horses for lessons, leading the horses and side walking with the riders, and are needed for fundraising, special events, facility and ground maintenance, some barn work and office work. No horse experience necessary.
