THE FOLLOWING is a selection of volunteer opportunities from various community organizations, made available through Volunteer North Shore, a service of North Shore Community Resources Society.
English Teacher: A volunteer is needed to teach English from September to May on Tuesdays between 3 and 5 p.m. at North Shore Neighbourhood House.
Activity Leader: Volunteer with children and/or youth at the Boys and Girls Club. In your role as activities volunteer you will assist staff and other volunteers in the different programs offered such as sports, cooking, homework clubs, arts, life skills, fun and social based programs for children/youth ages six to 12 or 13-18. This position offers flexibility, enjoyment, one-on-one and group setting time with children and/or youth, as well as allows you to be involved in the programs that interest you most.
Adventure Leader/Youth Mentor: Scouts Canada is part of an international organization focused on youth development through outdoor education, leadership opportunities and team learning. Scouts offers boys and girls, from kindergarten to young adult, a healthy lifestyle and community involvement.
Bus Outing Assistant: Capilano Care Centre is looking for a volunteer to assist leisure services staff to take residents in a long term care facility out on bus trips. Activities include drives, shopping at the mall and restaurants. Requires ability to push a wheelchair and involves social time and personal assistance.
Volunteer: The Elders Council for Parks in British Columbia is looking for volunteers to host 10 free interpretive natural history programs at the Heritage Centre at 1620 Mount Seymour Rd. and along the trails of the surrounding rainforest of Mount Seymour Provincial Park.
