New Year’s Eve revellers with red faces are encouraged to call drivers with red noses this Sunday.
For the last time this season, Operation Red Nose is slated to be on the streets between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. to ensure merrymakers who have made too much merry get home safely.
The designated driver service functions in teams of three with one volunteer driving the client home, a second volunteer navigating and the third following in the client’s car.
Organized by the four North Shore Rotary Clubs, the service is confidential and drivers are asked to be non-judgmental.
Anyone who feels like they shouldn’t be behind the wheel can call 604-362-2227 or use the Operation Red Nose app. Rides are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis and there are no reservations. To volunteer as a driver, navigator or dispatcher email [email protected].
Between 2012 and 2016, there were an average of 120 injuries and 410 crashes in the Lower Mainland in the 30 hours between 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 and midnight on Jan. 1, according to ICBC.
