It’s not the 401.
It’s the Upper Levels Highway in North Vancouver where a middle-aged Ontario driver was caught excessively speeding last week.
The male motorist was clocked travelling 143 kilometres per hour in an 80 km/h zone westbound near Lonsdale Avenue.
The driver was slapped with a $483-fine for excessive speeding, and his blue Subaru was impounded for seven days.
During his conversation with police, the driver didn’t provide a reason for speeding, said Const. Mansoor Sahak, spokesperson for North Vancouver RCMP.
The man said he was in B.C. for a week, but police don’t know if he was moving out west or just visiting.
Whatever his plans were, having his vehicle impounded is sure to have an impact, Sahak said.
“It is a big deterrence for some because it can really affect your plans,” he said. “You’re going to incur further costs if you need another vehicle.”
The fact that the man was from Ontario, where the highways are longer and faster, could have been a contributing factor, Sahak said.
“If you’re going to another province, know the laws,” he said.
