A woman was taken to hospital and a man has been ticketed following a head-on collision on Mountain Highway Friday morning.
According to North Vancouver RCMP, the driver of a black Pontiac, a North Vancouver man in his 20s, was headed south on Mountain Highway around 8 a.m. when he crossed over into the northbound lane, crashing into an oncoming SUV between East 14th Street and Arborlynn Drive.
The woman driving the SUV suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital, according to Cpl. Richard De Jong, North Vancouver RCMP spokesman.
The man has been ticketed under the Motor Vehicle Act for driving without due care and attention.
“Whether that was speed, inattentiveness, braking when he shouldn’t have, icy roads – many things will contribute to a collision like that,” he said.
Drivers should slow down when black ice might be on the road, De Jong said. Drivers may be ticketed for speeding even while staying under the posted speed limit if road conditions are bad, he added.
The collision and subsequent investigation closed Mountain Highway for an hour during the morning commute, stalling buses and detouring other drivers.
