A 54-year-old North Vancouver woman died after her SUV skidded off the road and slid 10 metres (30 feet) down an embankment Tuesday morning, say North Vancouver RCMP.

The accident happened in the 1100 block of Dempsey Road in Lynn Valley at about 7:30 a.m.

The woman was alone in her vehicle heading eastbound on Dempsey when she went off the road. The SUV rolled over at least once, sustaining significant damage, according to North Vancouver RCMP spokesman Corp. Richard De Jong.

The driver was put in an ambulance and rushed to hospital where she died of her injuries.

The RCMP’s Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service shut down the road for about 2.5 hours to attempt to reconstruct the accident, according to De Jong.

It’s too early to rule out any possible causes of the crash, according to De Jong.

“Everything’s being investigated,” he said.
