A 90-year-old West Vancouver woman is in hospital after allegedly being physically attacked by another customer at a grocery store checkout Sunday afternoon.

The elderly woman was reportedly in the checkout line at Save-On-Foods on Marine Drive in North Vancouver around 4 p.m. on June 15 when an altercation broke out between her and another customer in the lineup. At some point, the fight allegedly turned physical and the woman was injured. She was taken to hospital by ambulance.

North Vancouver RCMP spokesman Richard De Jong said investigators are still talking to store clerks and other witnesses and reviewing video surveillance to figure out exactly what happened. There was no word by press time on the woman's condition.

Antonio Aiello, 63, of Vancouver has been charged with assault causing bodily harm.
