North Vancouver city fire crews were called to deal with two simultaneous structure fires just three blocks apart Saturday night.
The first 911 calls came flooding in just after 9:20 p.m. when a small fire broke out in a second-floor apartment in the 100 block of East 6th Street.
Early warning from the building’s alarm system, however, meant crews were able to get there before any permanent damage was done.
“City and district crews got down there and did an aggressive interior attack and knocked the fire down,” said Chief Dan Pistilli.
Pistilli said damage was limited to some possessions within the suite. But the man who lives there and his son had to stay out of the apartment overnight.
The exact cause is still under investigation but Pistilli said but investigators believe the fire’s origin was the dining area.
Before the call had wrapped though, alarms were ringing again, this time in a single-family home just three blocks away on the 200 block of West 6th. With city crews already dealing with one blaze, firefighters from all three North Shore municipalities responded to the second call and it was quickly extinguished, Pistilli said.
Earlier in the day, a plumber had been using a torch to do some repair work, which resulted in some smoldering insulation, Pistilli said.
