POLICE have identified a homeless man found dead near the railroad tracks in North Vancouver two weeks ago as a 61-year-old man from Ontario who had been living on the Downtown Eastside.
The mans body was found by a pedestrian on the morning of Feb. 2, curled in the fetal position and covered with a blanket in bushes near Low Level Road.
None of the binners who regularly take bottles to the nearby recycling depot or outreach staff from social agencies were able to say who he was.
The man was eventually identified through fingerprints, as someone who had last been seen living on the streets of Vancouvers Downtown Eastside. Vancouver police checked on him in both September and October of last year and took him to hospital both times. The man appeared to be in poor condition and suffering from mental illness.
Police are currently trying to find and notify the mans family.
They said his death does not appear to be suspicious.
