The North Vancouver RCMP is warning the public after a brazen sexual assault on a teenaged girl Thursday afternoon.

According to police, a man knocked on the door of home in the 4000-block of Capilano Road around 12:30 p.m. He told the girl, who was home alone at the time, that he was there to do contract work at the request of her parents.

Once she let him in, the man sexually assaulted her. Police say the suspect is not known to the victim or her family.

Police are using all their investigative techniques to lead them to a suspect, but few details are available yet, said Cpl. Richard De Jong.

There is no indication if this was premeditated or if it was a crime of opportunity. All of this is being investigated, he said.

A police sketch artist was working with the victim to get an accurate description on Friday afternoon.

Shes quite traumatized, as you can imagine, De Jong said. When we put something out, we want it to be factual and accurate.

In the meantime, De Jong urged caution.

We want to warn the public but we also want to encourage anyone with any information that may assist us in locating the suspect, to call the North Vancouver detachment," he added. "The police are advising all North Vancouver citizens to be extra vigilant when allowing strangers onto their property or into their residence, for whatever reason."

De Jong said he is not aware of any other similar incidents happening in recent years.

Anyone who may have information about the assault or the suspect is asked to call the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311.
