North Vancouver RCMP are praising an honest citizen who found $2,000 in cash on the ground and turned it in.
On Friday, Jan. 5, a woman spotted an envelope on the sidewalk outside Lynn Valley Centre shopping mall. She looked around for the person who may have misplaced it but had no luck and turned it over to police.
The rightful owner showed up at the RCMP’s front counter within 24 hours able to say exactly how much was in the envelope and how it was folded. He had just come from the bank when he dropped the envelope.
Police arranged a meet-up for the lost-and-found duo.
“He was very grateful to the tune of $200, which he gave to the honest citizen,” said Cpl. Richard De Jong, North Vancouver RCMP spokesman.
When the RCMP put a brief story on their Twitter feed Monday, it quickly blew up, reaching tens of thousands of people. “People do like good news stories,” De Jong added.
Doing what's right paid off for an honest North Vancouver resident who turned over to police $2000 found in Lynn Valley. The grateful owner of the lost cash was identified and had the money returned. A $200 reward was given to the finder. Great way to start 2018!
