North Van RCMP ask who is 'Grinder Man'?

Cutting the lock is a quick way to steal a bike.

But police hope a video surveillance image of two thieves doing just that in a Lower Lonsdale apartment parkade last month will help identify the culprits.

Security cameras captured the thieves using a portable grinder on Oct. 10 to cut locks off bikes in the building’s storage locker, accessed through an underground parkade.

Thieves made off with three bikes from the storage locker. One was a $3,700 “Intense” ACV brown and gold mountain bike with a serial number VN16F00971.

Police are hoping someone will be able to identify the suspects in the video image, said Corp. Richard De Jong, spokesman for the North Vancouver RCMP.

They are also warning the public to make sure doors to underground parkades are closed before driving off, to prevent thieves from sneaking in.

“Even the most expensive bike lock offers little resistance to a cutting grinder,” said De Jong.
