A woman in her 60s was shaken up after allegedly being approached by a man who performed an indecent act in front of her while stopped on a Lynn Valley street.
“It was of a sexual nature,” said North Vancouver RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Richard De Jong. “She wasn’t touched or threatened or anything but psychologically and emotionally she was traumatized, yes.”
The woman was allegedly approached on Aug. 9 around 1 p.m. by a male suspect police are describing as a tanned Caucasian, six feet tall with a slender build, short grey hair and approximately 50 years old.
He was wearing a grey T-shirt and black shorts.
A few words were exchanged between the victim and perpetrator during the incident, which happened in broad daylight, according to De Jong.
“And again she had enough conversation with him to get a good description of him and his bike,” added De Jong.
The suspect was last seen riding away on an older navy blue mountain bike while wearing a silver and blue bike helmet.
“We believe he may live in the area,” said De Jong. “He’s on a bike, so he could go to other parts of North Vancouver so we don’t want to have one area identified.”
Police have not determined a motivation for the indecent act and no similar incidents have been reported in Lynn Valley as of late. It’s important for people to be alert and aware of their surroundings, say police.
“If a suspicious person comes and acts in a way that makes you uncomfortable – says things, does things – walk away, get a licence plate number, description – don’t engage in any conversation and call the police right away,” said De Jong.
Anyone who may know the suspect or has any information on him is asked to contact the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 and reference file 2017-20475.
