District of North Vancouver council is raising a glass to a new craft distillery lounge.

Council voted unanimously Monday night to endorse the Woods Distillery Company’s application to the B.C. Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch for a 20-person lounge at the company’s production facility at 1450 Rupert St.

But, the light-industrial area in Lynn Creek is notoriously short on parking during regular business hours so the district has stipulated patrons wanting a tipple will have to wait until after 5 p.m. on weekdays. On Saturdays and Sundays, the lounge will be licensed to open at 11 a.m.

The distillery, which produces gin and amaro on site, is currently only allowed to offer tasting in a limited capacity on Saturdays from 1 to 7 p.m.

Council buzzed with enthusiasm when it came to the vote.

“I’m a small business owner as well and I think there is so much more we can do to work together and to support other small businesses in our community,” said Coun. Megan Curren. “I’m happy to support it, and congratulations. It’s a cool space.”

Coun. Jordan Back highlighted its place in the emerging Lynn Creek town centre. “We have a lot of new residents down in this area and it’s nice to be able to have some options for them for social outings,” he said.
