A break in the weather has allowed North Shore Rescue to mount one more push to find two snowshoers who haven’t been seen since Christmas Day.

“We do have crews in the field. We have the (infrared camera) up and we’re getting some good coverage currently. It was fairly clear this morning but it has socked in a little bit since,” said Mike Danks, North Shore Rescue team leader. “We are working some areas that we didn’t cover initially, the north Strachan drainage.”

Roy Tin Hou Lee, 43, and 64-year-old Chun Sek Lam have been the subject of a massive search since their vehicle was found abandoned in the Cypress Mountain parking lot. The backcountry has been in blizzard-like conditions with massive avalanches during the search period.

Danks said he plans to have all his team members out of the backcountry by dark before deciding whether the search should be carried on any longer.

“We’ll be meeting with the West Van police and our search managers to discuss and then move forward based on the coverage that we’ve got and information that has been gathered by West Van police on any tips,” he said.
