There have been a total of 786 cases of COVID-19 in the North Shore Coast Garibaldi health area up to Oct. 15, including 100 new cases in the past two weeks, according to weekly statistics released by B.C.’s Centre for Disease Control.

The North Shore health area remains one of the areas of the Lower Mainland with a higher incidence of coronavirus cases per population, along with Vancouver and the Fraser South area. In the past 14 days, all of those areas have had an incidence of over 30 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people.

The number of COVD-19 cases being reported province-wide has increased in the past week, according to B.C.’s Centre for Disease Control, in particular among people aged 20 to 59. The number of people in hospital and in intensive care with COVID-19 has also increased, although those numbers are still lower than they were during the peak of the first phase of the pandemic in April.

As of Friday, there had been 11,189 cases of COVID-19 reported in B.C., including 4,036 in the Vancouver Coastal Health area. Of those, 1,513 are considered active cases, including 418 in Vancouver Coastal Health.

Rates of positive tests in Vancouver Coastal Health were sitting at 1.6 per cent on Friday.
