The number of new COVID-19 cases on the North Shore shot up by 64 in the last week of data released by the BC Centre for Disease Control, the largest one-week increase since the fourth wave began.
The vast majority of the new cases between Aug. 8 and 14 were in North Vancouver – 54 – while 10 new ones were detected in West Vancouver. In the previous weekly reporting period, North Vancouver and West Vancouver added 39 and 12 new cases, respectively.
As of the province's daily update on Wednesday, there were 5,580 active coronavirus cases in B.C., the highest at any point in the last three months.
As of July, North Vancouver had a total of 3,758 confirmed cases and West Vancouver had 1,350.
The province has not provided recent data on what percentage of new infections are in fully vaccinated individuals.
As of Aug. 17, 85 per cent of West Vancouver and Bowen Island residents over the age of 12 had received at least one vaccination shot, up from 84 per cent the week before.
In North Vancouver, 89 per cent of eligible residents had at least one dose, up from 88 per cent on Aug. 10.
