North Shore council meetings promise to be unusually well-attended tonight as proponents descend on district halls in North and West Vancouver to have their say on a pair of hotly contested issues.
A vital piece of West Vancouvers AmblesideNow redevelopment vision the sale of district land at the 1300-block of Marine Drive will be debated at the districts council Monday night. If the sale moves forward, this money will likely be used to help finance the proposed new public safety building. The plan has already drawn strong opinions from the community.
Meanwhile, the District of North Vancouver will consider a new strategy to address the controversial sport of longboarding. Previous debates on the topic have attracted outspoken advocates on both sides of the issue.
Both municipalities will also be discussing their financial plans, and West Vancouver councillors will debate a mechanism for determining the pay package for the mayor and council, and hikes to bylaw violation fines.
While these meetings are underway, the City of North Vancouver will hear two presentations about the sort of public entertainment that ought to occur in the Shipyards District, and get a progress report from Presentation House Gallery on its fundraising prospects. Various councillors will also press for a temporary moratorium on removing suites in duplexes or spending money on yarnbombing. A District of North Vancouver workshops Tuesday afternoon will see more district deliberation on its finances and a presentation from Metro Vancouver on the path towards a new North Shore sewage treatment plant.
