A “suspicious package” that caused a bomb scare in West Vancouver Saturday turned out to be a false alarm.

Just before 1 p.m. a citizen reported finding a box in the lane of Kings Avenue at 11th Street.

“It appeared to have been a tool box with combustible material that possibly had been attached somehow,” said Const. Jeff Palmer, West Vancouver police spokesman.

Police secured the area and evacuated the nearby houses while they called in the RCMP’s explosive disposal unit.

“They came, checked it, deemed that it was neither suspicious nor any kind of function device,” Palmer said.
