School trustee Kulvir Mann will take on the role of new chair of the North Vancouver school board, starting Dec. 1.

Mann was acclaimed to the position by fellow trustees on Nov. 16.

Mann, first elected by voters in the District of North Vancouver in 2018, was previously vice-chair of the school board.

Prior to her school board election, Mann was vice-chair of the North Vancouver District Parent Advisory Council, was chair of the Canyon Heights Parent Advisory Council, and has been an advocate for inclusive education.

Mann will take over from George Tsiakos, who has been chair of the school board for the past year.

At the same meeting, trustee Linda Munro – newly elected to the board in May – was also acclaimed as vice-chair.

Munro was elected in a byelection with 522 votes – a two per cent voter turnout – after former school trustee Devon Bruce resigned after two and a half years on the board.

Munro cited Indigenous education and inclusive education as priorities during her campaign.

Both the new chair and vice-chair will hold those positions until Nov. 7, 2022 – after the next general municipal and school board elections.
