Police are crediting some alert North Vancouver residents with stopping a would-be thief from making off with almost $50,000 worth of their neighbour’s belongings.
On July 11, a Norgate resident called police after noticing a suspicious looking man stepping out of the neighbour’s home carrying a suitcase. Police arrived and confirmed the house had been broken into but the suspect had disappeared.
Ten minutes later and a kilometre away, another concerned citizen noticed a suspicious looking person parking his car in a commercial parking lot and called police. Investigators arrived and arrested the driver, a 46-year-old New Westminster man. Inside the suitcase was more than $50,000 in stolen property, police allege, that came from the break-and-enter in Norgate. Police say that included cash and jewelry.
Steven Glen Jones is now facing one charge of breaking and entering.
Supt. Chris Kennedy, officer in charge of the North Vancouver RCMP, credited the public for calling in suspicious activity.
