NORTH Vancouver RCMP are looking for witnesses to a brawl that broke out in Lower Lonsdale last week after a car owner came forward to claim his vehicle had been damaged in the scuffle.

The alleged donnybrook started just after 8 p.m. on May 8 when a group of young men got into an altercation near the corner of West First Street and Chesterfield Avenue, according to investigators. At one point, the participants reportedly sprawled across the hood of a parked Subaru, setting off the alarm.

Police responded to the scene, but after talking to the fighters, concluded the fracas had been "consensual" and let the youths go.

The owner of the car wasn't as happy to let the matter rest however. Drawn to the scene by the alarm, he pointed out damage to the hood, which he claimed had been caused in the ruckus.

"(The young men) are saying, of course, 'No we didn't,'" said Cpl. Richard De Jong, a spokesman for the North Vancouver RCMP. "But these dents don't magically happen."

There were several witnesses to the incident, according to investigators, but by the time the damage came to light, they had already left.

The detachment has since put out a plea to the media in the hope of locating those missing bystanders and settling the matter.

Anyone who saw the May 8 fisticuffs is asked to contact the force at 604-985-1311.
