A motorcycle rider headed for the Sea-to-Sky Highway suffered multiple broken bones on Victoria Day after losing control on a curve, crashing into a centre barricade and skidding about 80 metres along the barricade.

Emergency services were called out at about 6:15 p.m. Monday evening in West Vancouver to the crash on the highway, which happened on the curve where westbound Highway 1 joins northbound Highway 99 at Eagleridge Bluffs.

The rider, a 43-year-old Vancouver man, was taken to hospital with multiple bone fractures, abrasions and bruising, said Const. Jeff Palmer of the West Vancouver Police Department. The man’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The motorcycle, a 2008 Suzuki street bike, was heavily damaged.

The rider was handed a $167 ticket for speeding relative to road conditions.

Another motorcycle crash happened on May 18 when a 29-year-old rider lost control on a curve at Marine Drive and Creery Avenue and crashed into a roadside area. The rider told police he had only recently got his motorcycle licence. Speed and inexperience are believed to have been factors in the crash, said Palmer. Damage to the 2017 Honda street bike was estimated at $8,000. The rider did not appear injured, but was taken to hospital for observation as a precautionary measure, said police. No ticket was issued.
