'Plenty of midnight rain pouring down': Vancouver forecast includes rain, sunnier Sunday

'The air is cold but we aren't expecting any snow on the beach, just plenty of midnight rain pouring down Friday night.'

Vancouver could see heavy rain Friday, Dec. 6, as the forecast shows precipitation headed to the area.

With tens of thousands of people headed to Vancouver this weekend, it seems the city will be showing off a variety of weather.

Rain jackets will be useful Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7, says Environment Canada meteorologist Lisa Erven, as the city showcases its Raincouver reputation for all the Taylor Swift fans in town.

Rainy Friday

"The air is cold, but we aren't expecting any snow on the beach, just plenty of midnight rain pouring down Friday night," says Erven.

Friday is expected to start showery, but rainfall will get more intense in the evening and into the night.

"For Friday night we do have a high chance of showers for the evening period as people are lining up, but the rainfall rates really pick up later into the evening," says Erven.

For those leaving the Eras Tour at BC Place (or the Canucks game or Cirque de Soleil), they may be walking out into a downpour.

"Be prepared as you exit the venue," says Erven.

Weatherhood's Yaletown station, near the stadium district, is predicting highs of 10 C during the early afternoon and lows of 6 C at night on Friday.

That intense rain will continue through the night into the early hours of Saturday, Dec. 7; current models show up to 40 mm predicted to fall. Erven notes that that's just shy of the criteria for a rain warning, so Environment Canada will be watching closely to see if the weather models change.

Showery Saturday

Things will calm down through Saturday.

"Showers are still in the forecast for Saturday evening, but the total rain expected Saturday evening is much less than Friday night," says Erven.

Still, she says, a rain jacket is a good fashion choice for people out Saturday night.

"It's still wet weather, and good to be prepared," says Erven.

Weatherhood's Yaletown station is predicting highs of 9 C during the early afternoon and lows of 6 C at night on Saturday.

Sunnier Sunday

Sunday, Dec. 8, as Taylor Swift prepares for the final show of the world record-setting Eras Tour, the cloud cover should break.

"The rain system will be moving east of Vancouver," says Erven.

By Sunday night it's unlikely downtown Vancouver will be seeing any notable precipitation.

Weatherhood's Yaletown station is predicting a cooler day, though, with highs of 7 C during the early afternoon and lows of 4 C at night on Sunday.

Beyond Sunday, the pause in the wet weather is expected to remain for a little while.

"We have a pause in the wet weather for the first few days of the work week," says Erven.
