Metro to quiz party leaders on civic issues

THE North Shore's municipalities, along with the rest of Metro Vancouver, are putting the province's four political party leaders in the hot seat in the run-up to the 2013 election.

At its Monday council meeting, the City of North Vancouver signed off on a letter and questionnaire to be sent to B.C. Liberal Party leader Christy Clark, New Democratic Party leader Adrian Dix, B.C. Conservatives leader John Cummins and Green Party of B.C. leader Jane Sterk.

The questions are designed to put pressure on the four parties to include municipal issues like affordable housing, regional planning, public transit, municipal financing, environmental protection and the relationship between Victoria and local governments in the parties' platforms and in the public conversation.

Metro Vancouver plans to post the responses to the questionnaire on its Local Government Matters website in late March. British Columbians go to the polls May 14.
