THE identity of a man who was spotted half-naked on the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Crossing last week remains a mystery to North Vancouver police.

RCMP received a call at around 9: 35 p.m. Oct. 4 from an eastbound driver who noticed a man near the bridge railings dressed only in a T-shirt and underwear.

An extensive three-hour search ensued.

"We searched high and low, below the bridge, in the water. We had marine patrols going, we walked the bridge, walked the surrounding areas. . . . We found absolutely nothing," said Const. Geoff Harder, spokesman for the North Vancouver RCMP.

Harder said reports like these usually involve a person in distress.

"What we would expect is somebody in an emotionally disturbed state. Our primary concern is their safety," he said.

"Maybe they left the bridge, maybe we sort of intervene in their life and help them out."

The man is described as an adult Caucasian with an average build and dark hair. Both his T-shirt and underwear were white. Police have not received any missing persons reports that match the description or the timing of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 and quote file number 2012-26552.
