Man hospitalized after run-in with bad Santas

Two would-be Santas are on their role models naughty list this week after they reportedly attacked a man outside North Vancouvers Rusty Gull pub.

The two holly jolly suspects, clad in full Santa suits, had just stepped out of the popular watering hole on East First Street at about 11 p.m. Friday when they apparently got into an altercation with a patron who had been ejected from the bar a short time before. The confrontation quickly escalated, according to police.

There was an assault, and the non-Santa, if you will, received a punch in the face, said Cpl. Richard De Jong, a spokesman for the North Vancouver RCMP.

Paramedics rushed the man to Lions Gate Hospital, where he was treated and released. The alleged assailants fled before police got there.

Its not clear what the dispute was about.

Two Santas came in, they stood here for three or four minutes at the bar they didnt order anything and then they turned around and walked out, said Rusty Gull co-owner Bob Savage. The next thing I know, the ambulance is out front.

After speaking with witnesses and the victim, investigators deemed it a minor matter and chose not to pursue the case further, said De Jong.

Alcohol may have been a factor, he added.

The victim was certainly under the influence of, shall we say, Christmas spirits, said De Jong.

The incident was extremely unusual, said Savage, as the bar really doesnt see fights with or without Santas involvement.

Its very safe place to hang out, he said.
