A West Vancouver Blue Bus driver was taken to hospital last week after he was reportedly assaulted by a passenger who didn't want to pay.
The suspect tried to board the bus in the 900-block of Marine Drive at about 4 p.m. on July 18 and refused to cough up the fare, according to police.
When the driver ordered him off, the man became upset and allegedly punched him repeatedly in the head. Investigators say the assault only stopped when other passengers stood up to intervene and the man left the bus.
Police rushed to the scene and arrested the suspect nearby. The victim was treated in hospital for injuries to his face.
"We take things like this very seriously," said Jessica Delaney, a spokeswoman for the District of West Vancouver, which oversees the Blue Bus network. "The district's H.R. department is providing support to the staff person involved."
Norman Singh Siddoo, 47, from Vancouver, was kept in custody until he could appear in North Vancouver provincial court on a charge of assault Tuesday.
