The often-busy traffic routes heading to Ironworkers Memorial Bridge may be even busier this week and next due to road work.

The Main Street eastbound on-ramp to Highway 1 at the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge is closed nightly from Wednesday, July 23 to Friday, July 25 between 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. due to paving.

After the paving there, a section of Main Street eastbound will also be closed for resurfacing.

The Ministry of Transportation and Transit said between Saturday, July 26 to Tuesday, July 29, Main Street eastbound between Harbour Avenue and Mountain Highway will be closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. .

Drivers headed for Highway 1 are advised to use the Dollarton Highway on-ramp during the ramp closures. Vehicles heading eastbound on Main Street will be directed north on Mountain Highway, then detoured to Keith Road eastbound.

Travellers should expect some delays while the closures are ongoing, with potential heavy traffic during peak hours and during planned events along Main Street near the construction zone.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area during construction hours or plan alternative routes.

Work is dependent on the weather for paving. Travellers can check DriveBC before heading out on the roads for up-to-date traffic alerts.
