THE ALS Society of B.C. recently announced that Lisa and Dave Richardson, along with their team of The ALS Adventure Challenge/ Nilsson Foundation, were the recipients of an Exceptional Advocacy Award.
They raised funds and awareness for ALS by hosting a number of ALS Adventure Challenge Races in Deep Cove and Nanaimo.
ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, is a neurodegenerative disorder that can affect anyone at any time, according to a press release. ALS attacks the motor neurons that transmit electrical impulses from the brain to the voluntary muscles in the body. Those diagnosed with ALS will experience overall weakness and eventually lose the ability to move muscles in their arms, legs, mouth, throat and elsewhere. A person diagnosed with ALS will typically be immobilized or deceased within two to five years of their initial diagnosis.
Together with their team, Lisa and Dave raised funds to support improved research technology and services for ALS patients and improve their quality of life while living with ALS.
