Dear Editor:
I would like to give you a positive response, and some words of encouragement, on your Feb. 9 article West Vancouver Calls For Gay-friendly Games.
This was a necessary, bold and informative article listing the powerful things that the council members who passed the motion said.
As well, your article gave the additional power needed for change. It showed how most people are tolerant about homosexuality and bisexuality. I care about the wellbeing of these people no matter who they are sexually attracted to. I also think that the secondary citizen treatment of LGBT people is unfair and the fact that (Russian president) Vladimir Putin gave the bland stereotypical and insensitive statement that these people will be allowed at the Games and will not be harassed "if they leave the children alone."
And while I agree that passing this motion was too late to cause a bigger impact at Sochi, your article and the passing of the motion by West Vancouver city council could easily make things better for people who are different in not just 2018's Olympic Games but regular everyday situations as well.
