Get out the galoshes and clear the storm drains. The North Shore is in for a soggy couple of days.

A heavy rainfall warning has been issued by Environment Canada, with rain starting tonight and continuing into Thursday.

In Metro Vancouver, areas of North and West Vancouver near the North Shore mountains are expected to feel the brunt of the weather system, along with Coquitlam and Maple Ridge.

Areas of Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast will also be affected.

Total rainfall of 60 to 120 millimetres is expected, with the highest amounts of rain near the North Shore mountains.

Environment Canada warns the heavy rain could cause water to pool on roads, like sections of the Upper Levels highway, and cause localized flooding. Washouts near creeks, culverts and rivers are also possible.

The rain is expected to taper off later in the day on Friday.
