Nature and Water Photo Contest: The Nature Trust of B.C. invites amateur photographers who are residents of B.C. to enter its 2012 photo contest until Dec. 7. Photos of nature in B.C. will be accepted in the following categories: wild water; landscapes and water; wildlife and water; and plants and water. A Dried Flower Arrangement Sale will take place Dec. 1 and 2, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at VanDusen Botanical Garden, 5251 Oak St., Vancouver. Topiaries, centrepieces, wreaths, bouquets and arrangements made from materials gathered at VanDusen will be available. Info: vandusengarden.org.

Walk in the Rainforest - Welcoming Winter Birds: A program for adults to learn about Lynn Canyon Park's resident winter birds Saturday, Dec. 1, 1-2: 30 p.m. at Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre, 3663 Park Rd., North Vancouver. Fee: $8.25. Registration required: 604-990-3755.

Festival of Lights: A display of 1.4 million lights at VanDu-sen Botanical Garden, 5251 Oak St., Vancouver will take place every evening, except Christmas day, from Dec. 7 to Jan. 1, 4: 30-9 p.m. Evenings prior to Christmas will feature community choirs and Santa. Light and Colour in the Garden: A program for families with children ages five to 11 Sunday, Dec. 16 from 10: 30 a.m. to noon or 1: 30-3 p.m. at VanDusen Botanical Garden, 5251 Oak St., Vancouver. Participants will make lanterns and go on a winter safari through
