Climate Change and Trees: An educational exhibit by UBC's Faculty of Forestry that explores the effects of climate change on many of the tree species found in VanDusen's collection will run until June 9 at VanDusen Botanical Garden, 5251 Oak St., Vancouver. The exhibit consists of 19 interpretative panels, each representing a species of tree, that explore how trees in the garden are adapting (or not) to the climatic changes in southwestern B.C. This will be a hands on demonstration with lots of opportunity for questions and answers.

Making Pleasing Places: A presentation by noted artist and naturalist Robert Bateman Wednesday, April 24, 7: 30 p.m. at VanDusen Botanical Garden, 5251 Oak St., Vancouver. Learn about the history and geography of places that have been organized with pleasing aesthetic considerations. These places range from African and New Guinea villages to the sophisticated royal palaces at Versailles. Also included will be images of personal attempts by Bateman to make his own "pleasing places." Admission: $25 non-members/$20 members. The 15th Annual Friends of the Garden Plant Sale will take place rain or shine, Saturday, April 27, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Park and Tilford Gardens, 333 Brooksbank Ave., North Vancouver. Volunteers will help with the choosing of plants suited to our climate and master gardeners will be available to answer gardening questions. Cash only. Funds raised go towards enhancing the garden.

Annual Park Project: Join the Lynn Valley Community Association and the Lynn Valley Seniors Association to make improvements to Doran Park, North Vancouver Saturday, April 27, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Meet at the Doran Road entrance. There will be basic gardening, removing invasive plants, planting natural vegetation and cleaning up litter. Boots, work clothes and gloves are recommended. Water and coffee will be provided. VanDusen's Annual Plant Sale will take place Sunday, April 28, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at VanDusen Botanical Garden, 5251 Oak St., Vancouver. More than 40,000 individual plants will be available for sale, arranged in categories such as herbs and vegetables, grasses, vines, trees and shrubs, perennials and native plants.
