Goldsmith-Jones announces departure

Pam Goldsmith-Jones announced Wednesday that she would not seek re-election as mayor of West Vancouver.

Pam Goldsmith-Jones announced Wednesday that she would not seek re-election as mayor of West Vancouver.

In an email to district councillors, Goldsmith-Jones said her short-term priority is to settle some of the decisions related to the redevelopment of Ambleside.

"I look forward to continuing our work," she wrote, "and finishing our term together before I move on to other things."

Goldsmith-Jones also congratulated Coun. Michael Smith on his recently announced decision to run for mayor in November's municipal election.

Goldsmith-Jones did not comment on speculation that "other things" may include a run for provincial office. Ralph Sultan, Liberal MLA for West Vancouver-Capilano, confirmed that he would run for re-election and had been instructed to ready his campaign machine. Joan McIntyre, Liberal MLA for West Vancouver-Sea to Sky, was not available for comment by deadline.
