Gaming grants announced

14 North Shore organizations have gotten a funding boost totalling $554,140 as part of the Community Gaming Grants.

14 North Shore organizations have gotten a funding boost totalling $554,140 as part of the Community Gaming Grants.

These grants given by the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development allow local community groups to provide services to families in their region.

The North Shore Girls Soccer Club has received $125,000, while the North Vancouver Minor Hockey Association has been granted $100,000 and the Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club $50,000.

The remaining 11 groups each received less than $50,000: North West Vancouver Ringette Association, $17,150; Vancouver Freestyle Ski Club, $13,500; Seymour Art Gallery Society, $35,000; Lynn Valley Little League Association, $23,280; Seymour Basketball Association, $8,400; North Shore Female Ice Hockey Association, $35,000; Vancouver Skating Club, $40,000; Highlands Little League Baseball Association, $19,750; Chena Swim Club, $40,600; West Vancouver Youth Band Society, $20,000; West Vancouver Otters Swim Club, $26,260.

The grants were announced Aug. 31 and are designed to help fund programs in arts, culture, social services, environment and sport.

Shauna Tucker, president of the North Shore Girls Soccer Club, said, "We are of course delighted to have received the money and very grateful. Soccer is the most played game among girls and young women in North Vancouver."
