condo project
Bold Properties is proposing a 163-unit condo complex just east of the old Barnet Hotel property.

Port Moody council will hold its first electronic public hearing on Tuesday.

Participants will be able to comment on a proposal by Bold Properties to construct a 163-unit condo complex on the east side of Clarke Road, between St. Johns and St. George streets.

The project is comprised of two six-storey buildings, next to the old Barnet Hotel property. A partnership between the builder and BC Housing’s Affordable Home Ownership Program (AHOP) will apply to 118 units, making them more attainable for middle-class buyers. The rest of the units will be sold at market rates.

The city is also expected to realize $900,000 in community amenity contributions, including $300,000 for its affordable housing reserve fund, as well as a $189,000 contribution to its public art reserve fund.

The project initially came before council last December, but was rejected after several councillors expressed reservations about builder Tommy He’s desire to include the city in the partnership to reduce the cost of all units by 10%.

But after He revised his plan to only team up with BC Housing, council agreed in late January to take another look. He also tweaked the design to set back the top two floors of both buildings to ease the visual transition to neighbouring single-family homes.

People wishing to participate in the electronic public hearing on the Zoom virtual meeting platform must first register at portmoody.ca/ph. You’ll need an internet connection, as well as a computer, tablet or smartphone equipped with speakers and a microphone. You'll also need to download the app if you're using a smartphone or tablet.

Once registered, you’ll receive an email with instructions to log into the public hearing and to join the queue of speakers you’ll use the “raise hand” function on the app.

Input can also be provided by sending an email to [email protected], or by fax to 604-469-4550. Written submissions must be received by noon Tuesday.

Another public hearing is also scheduled for June 9, where applications for two additional cannabis retailers will be among the items being considered.
