Free Christmas event returns to Canada Place complete with holiday-themed drone show

Lights, camera, Christmas!

The sails of Canada Place are about to get decked out in their holiday best.

From Dec. 2 to Jan. 2, the outdoor promenade will be transformed by the Port of Vancouver into an avenue of Christmas trees and window displays for Christmas at Canada Place.

The bay windows along the Canada Trail will be reimagined as Woodward's Windows in an homage to classic department store holiday scenes right down to the familiar (if slightly creepy) animatronic characters and elaborate retro decor.

The same space greets guests with decorated Christmas trees and lights, sponsored by community organizations and ends with a display of wintry lights which includes a 15-foot moose affectionately named “Chrismoose.”

The festive feast of nostalgia and lights also has a new addition this year. At 6 p.m. on Dec. 2 and 3, a drone show will take over the skies to tell a holiday story through images and messages.

“We are thrilled to welcome the community back to this holiday tradition on Vancouver’s waterfront. Christmas at Canada Place has become a special tradition for so many across the Lower Mainland,” says the president of the Canada Place Corporation and vice president of real estate at Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, Tom Corsie, in a press release. “We are so pleased to be able to bring this celebration back to Canada Place each year.”
