A former Sea to Sky Conservative MP is trying to reclaim his seat in federal parliament.
West Vancouver lawyer John Weston has been officially acclaimed to represent the Conservative Party of Canada as its candidate in the next federal election in the West Vancouver - Sunshine Coast - Sea to Sky Country riding. He is expected to square off against the riding’s incumbent Liberal MP, Patrick Weiler, who won his seat less than two years ago in the fall of 2019.
Weston served as MP from 2008 to 2015, when he lost his seat to Liberal Pamela Goldsmith-Jones.
“I’m grateful for the honour to represent my party once again. My campaign began long before the nomination,” said Weston in a news release. ”In the upcoming campaign, Canada’s Conservatives will present our plan to secure the future by focusing on jobs, accountability, mental health, stockpiling essential medical products, and balancing the budget over the next decade. We will also showcase our comprehensive environment plan to reduce emissions while creating jobs and growing the economy.”
There has been widespread speculation that the Liberals will be taking Canadians to the polls once again sometime this year.
If that’s the case, it would’ve been the second election in only two years since Justin Trudeau’s party secured a minority government alongside the NDP.
“As cynical as it is, I believe Justin Trudeau is manoeuvring Canadians into an election this June,” said Weston. “That’s why I’m working now to ensure we do our part to end Canada’s current crushing experience of woeful, bad judgment in the Prime Minister’s Office. We have so much good to accomplish together.
