Forecast calls for continued heat wave

SIZZLING summer temperatures and sunny skies forecasted to hit this Canada Day weekend could continue on the North Shore for the next few days.

SIZZLING summer temperatures and sunny skies forecasted to hit this Canada Day weekend could continue on the North Shore for the next few days.

Environment Canada is predicting the balmy temperatures to continue through until at least Tuesday, with a change in airflow pattern Wednesday that could bring some cloud cover, but little change in the high temperatures.

John McIntyre, a forecaster for Environment Canada, said there would also be a difference in temperature depending on where you live on the North Shore.

"You'll notice a difference moving from the water upwards," said McIntyre, adding that Monday's temperatures could peak in the low 30s, while Tuesday could see temperatures on the North Shore soar to as high as 34 C for inland areas.

McIntyre said weather systems from the United States are shifting the temperatures up here.

"There's a huge area of high pressure from over the American Northwest pushing northward into British Columbia," he said, and that is burning off the cloud cover.

According to The Weather Network, the current hot spell could be breaking some historic average temperatures. At this time of year over the past 30 years, temperatures on the North Shore are typically cooler.

Last year, daytime highs for the beginning of July hovered around the low to mid 20s.
