West Vancouver firefighters raced to a house on Cranley Drive Tuesday night to douse a fire that started in one of the home’s upper floor bedrooms.
Multiple calls came in to report the fire in the Eagle Harbour area around 9:40 p.m., said Jeff Bush, assistant fire chief.
When fire crews arrived, flames were already licking the underside of the roof. One woman who was home at the time the fire broke out escaped unharmed. “She’s a very lucky lady,” said Bush.
Bush said 20 firefighters quickly brought the fire under control and spent the majority of time checking for hot spots.
Fire investigators still don’t know yet how the fire started. “We’re trying to rule out several different types of causes,” he said.
The top floor of the two-storey home was destroyed in the fire.
The bottom floor was not damaged.
Bush said there is no estimate of the total value of damage so far.
