GLENEAGLES elementary students recently participated in a renaming celebration for their school. On May 17, Gleneagles officially added the First Nation's name Ch'áxa, a Squamish word representing a sound made by herring.

On May 17, Gleneagles officially added the First Nation's name Ch'áxa, a Squamish word representing a sound made by herring. Grade 7 students Emma Shuparski (left) and Daphne Bibbings join in the celebration in the photo above. Students participate in a traditional blessing of a carving using cedar boughs in the photo at left. Grade 3 students Shan Ree (left) and Rohan Tupling perform a traditional Eagle Dance during the ceremony in the photo at far left. First Nations elders visited the school leading up to the event to teach students the dance. Lt.-Gov. Steven L. Point spoke at the event.
