Eagle Harbour duplex project to go to public hearing in West Van

The plan includes 36 homes on a 4.5-acre parcel of land in the Eagle Harbour neighbourhood of West Vancouver

A plan to build 34 duplex units on a large lot on West Vancouver’s Daffodil Drive will go to public hearing next month.

The proposal includes duplex units in 17 buildings across a currently undeveloped 4.5-acre parcel of land in West Van’s Eagle Harbour neighbourhood, along with two single-family homes.

According to a staff report, the vacant land was previously approved for a 10-unit subdivision of single-family homes.

More recently, however, the developer has submitted a new request for the duplex project, which would require a zoning bylaw change and change to the official community plan.

The duplex units would range from about 2,200 square feet up to 4,000 square feet in size.

The plan would include 82 on-site parking spaces, including 10 visitor spaces and Level 2 EV charging.

Following a public information meeting in February 2021, the developer changed the design of three buildings that back on to Cranley Drive, according to a staff report, to reduce their size and number of storeys.

The units would be geared to a range of residents, from families to empty nesters, according to the staff report.

Coun. Nora Gambioli noted that under the previous plan for single-family homes, each lot would also be allowed a coach house and secondary suite, “so we’re talking about six extra units,” she said.

The plan will go to a public hearing April 8.
