WEST Vancouver police are warning motorists they never know when they might be sharing the road with a drunk driver after two people were investigated within a 12-hour span last week.

Just after noon on Feb. 29, a car went into a ditch on Highway 99, north of Horseshoe Bay. Police arrived to find ambulance crews treating the driver for minor injuries. Police said the driver showed obvious signs of impairment. Charges are now pending.

Twelve hours later, police got a call about a vehicle suspiciously parked on Mathers Avenue with a man behind the wheel. Police arrived to find the driver showing obvious signs of impairment. Breath samples indicated a blood alcohol level at least twice the legal limit. A 58-year-old West Vancouver man is now facing impaired driving charges.

West Vancouver Police Chief Peter Lepine said officers continue to be extremely concerned over incidents of impaired driving on West Vancouver roadways.
