- Mustang Boss 302, by Donald Farr, Motorbooks, 160 pages, $33.00.
WITH a guttural roar the Boss 302 Mustang rolled off the assembly line in April of 1969.
Its powerful engine sent out a challenge that Ford was ready to take on the big boys on the track.
Following the engine evolution the Mustang produced 290 horsepower, identical to the Camaro Z28, but its overall performance saw the Boss step out in front of the competition.
Author Donald Farr follows the development of this legendary vehicle and provides plenty of details on the road to the winner's circle.
With an eye to bringing back a former leader, Ford opted to rekindle the Boss franchise and showcased the new version in the summer of 2010. Staying true to the styling of the original, the new Boss 302 leaves the earlier version behind with its 444 horsepower engine.
Chief designer Darrell Behmer said, "we've taken design cues from the 1969 Boss street cars and updated them to give the 2012 Boss 302 the proper bad-boy attitude."
Farr has captured the history and the transformation of this performance car and served it up with a great collection of photographs that cover every aspect of its past and present.
