West Vancouver police officers arrested a suspect inside a Park Royal store early Tuesday morning.

It’s probably not what they meant by a “doorcrasher” sale.

A man intent on helping himself to an unauthorized shopping spree at an outdoor apparel and equipment store in West Vancouver was arrested by police Tuesday morning.

West Vancouver police officers were called just before 7 a.m. by a security guard at Park Royal who had discovered a smashed exterior window at the mall.

Officers attended and found a suspect inside the Atmosphere retail store, which according to its website was in the midst of a Cyber Monday “doorcrasher” sale on hiking and camping gear.

It appeared that the suspect had broken a window to access the store, said Const. Kevin Goodmurphy, spokesman for the West Vancouver Police Department and was trying to steal clothing. Officers found the suspect in a staff office in the store.

A 34-year-old man from Vancouver was arrested at the scene, and later released.

Police have recommended charges of theft, breaking and entering, and mischief.
