WITH snow on the streets and heavy rain in the forecast, the District of North Vancouver is advising all residents to go online before they go outside.

The district has launched the Twitter handle www.twitter.com/DNV_Snow to supply residents with weather forecasts, road conditions, safety tips and the snowplow schedule.

Residents who are online but don't use Twitter are encouraged to visit www.dnv.org/ snow for tips and updates, as well as the district's snow-clearing policy.

Questions about snow removal and road conditions can also be answered at the district's information line, 604-990-2255.

The district is asking residents to park in their driveways when snowfall is expected to allow enough room for snowplows and salt spreaders. This is particularly important on cul-de-sacs and narrow roads. Some on-street parking may be restricted when Environment Canada forecasts more than five centimetres of snow.

The district also advises residents to prepare an emergency kit that contains everything they need to survive 72 hours without power or assistance.
