A North Vancouver firefighter has been honoured for the commitment and dedication he has shown with his work in the department.

Brad Gaudette is this year's recipient of the North Vancouver District Fire and Rescue Services Outstanding Achievement Award. Gaudette has been with DNVFRS for 10 years and is described by his colleagues as a "rare commodity" and a "great role model to young firefighters within the District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services."

"Brad is not only an outstanding firefighter, he also displays his commitment to our community through his involvement in the department as an instructor, as part of the department's hiring committee, and through his participation with the DNVFRS Charitable Society," said Victor Penman, District of North Vancouver fire chief.

The awards were held on Oct. 11 in the district council chambers. The mayor, council, staff, and North Vancouver MPs and MLAs attended the event to help celebrate and honour the 33 DNVFRS members who were recognized for achieving significant milestones in their careers and for their outstanding contributions to DNVFRS and the community.

"The Outstanding Achievement Award is given to an individual who has made a significant contribution at a specific incident, to a department program, to our community or to Fire Service in general," said Penman. "Brad Gaudette covers all these categories."

The DNVFRS employs 140 staff over four platoons in five fire stations in the Lynn Valley, Lynnmour, Montroyal, Norgate, and Seymour areas, and serves 87,000 residents in the district.
