POLICE are hoping the public can help shed some light on the mysterious death of a West Vancouver man last week.

The 59-year-old, whose name has been withheld at his family's request, was last seen leaving his home for a bike ride on Monday. He was known as an accomplished outdoorsman. When he failed to return, his wife contacted the police.

The following day, a boater found the man's body floating in Burrard Inlet off of Cates Park.

What happened in between those times is a mystery, although the North Vancouver RCMP say they have no reason to suspect foul play at this point. An autopsy was performed Friday, and police said Monday the results were inconclusive.

One of the leads police are pursing is the man's missing bicycle, a 2007 Opus Stelle road bike, white with green trim. Investigators are hoping finding the bike may help them piece together what happened.

Anyone with information should contact Sgt. Greg Mainman at 604-985-1311.
